Her Cowboy Groom - Trish Milburn (HAR #1546 - May 2015)

Series: Blue Falls, Texas (Book 5)

A PLACE TO HEAL

When Linnea Holland's plans for her dream wedding collapse, she flees to the safest place she knows: Blue Falls, Texas. At her best friend's family ranch, nobody asks for details. The Brody boys just welcome her with open arms and a whole lot of brotherly love.

Trouble is, the feelings between Linnea and Owen Brody are a little warmer than that. They practically grew up together, but she has suddenly noticed that Owen has grown into one hot cowboy. And his protective instincts kick in when he sees how much Linnea is hurting. He's the perfect antidote to her lying ex-fiancé. But can their feelings be love -- or is Owen simply a guy she can rely on for the rebound?

Good book with two very believable characters. Linnea was the co-owner of a bridal shop and just days away from her own fairy-tale wedding when she learned of her fiancé's lies. Devastated, she needed somewhere to hide out for a few days. An invitation to stay at her best friend's family ranch was just what the doctor ordered. Chloe's brothers and father welcomed her the same as always, there if she needed them but otherwise leaving her in peace. Though she has known them for years, suddenly she was looking at Owen in a whole new way, something she wasn't entirely comfortable with.

The youngest of the Brody siblings, Owen has quite a reputation as a flirt and a ladies man. But there was something about Linnea that stirred unfamiliar feelings in him and that made him very nervous.

I enjoyed the development of the relationship between Linnea and Owen. I ached for the pain she was in and how it caused her to doubt herself. She found it a little unsettling to discover that Owen was the one who could break through her misery and make her smile again. I loved Owen's surprise at how protective he felt about her. I loved seeing them spend time together as Owen did his best to pull Linnea free of her misery. He was also amazingly sensitive to her moods and seemed to know when to push her a little and when to let her escape. As something of an outsider, Linnea's belief in Owen and his horses gave him the boost of confidence he needed to get past his family's low expectations of him. He also was there for her when the creepy ex-fiancé made a nuisance of himself. It's easy to see that the feelings they have for each other grow stronger by the day, but both have their reasons to be cautious. A last-ditch effort by Michael to create trouble brought Owen's fears to the surface and brought out the fighter in Linnea. I loved her confrontation with Michael and seeing her fight for the life she wanted. A misunderstanding with Owen created some tension near the end, but his persistence and determination won the day.

I loved visiting Blue Falls again and catching up with characters from previous books. I especially liked the way that Linnea was welcomed and encouraged and supported. Everyone's enthusiasm for her new venture was a big boost to her confidence. I liked the closeness of the Brody family, though I got a little frustrated by their unwillingness to see Owen's new maturity and commitment to his horses. I quite enjoyed their surprise when the truth finally sank in.
